Jason Solounias, Piano
Jason Solounias is an actively performing D.C. pianist and is currently pursuing his Doctoral degree in Piano Performance. He has a Master of Music Degree from The Catholic University of America, where he studied with Jim Litzelman, and a Bachelor of Music Degree from Shepherd University, where he studied with Dr. Scott Beard.
Jason has competed in several solo competitions, including the International Young Artist Piano Competition and area competitions sponsored by the West Virginia Music Teachers Association and Maryland Music Teachers Association. He has also worked with renowned pianists including Leon Fleischer, John Perry, Laura De Fusco, and Jose Ramos Santana.
Jason recently performed in the Limelight production of The Last Five Years, as well as in the 2010 Page to Stage Festival, the Amalfi Coast Music Festival, and the Opera Camerata of Washington, and was a guest soloist for the Shepherd University Friends of Music Chopin Celebration. Other recent performances include the premiere of the chamber opera Unfinished Sermons, as well as new music concerts at the Catholic University New Voices Festival, Collegiate Music Society and The Society of Composers, Inc.
Comfortable in a wide range of styles, from classical to jazz, Jason draws on these many influences in his teaching. He uses a focused approach that is tailored to each student and stresses the importance of understanding music theory and history as well as performance, while dedicating his best energy and resources in order to create the most productive learning environment for each of his students.
