Shannon Kelly, Voice
Shannon Kelly is an active vocalist and music educator in the Washington DC area. She holds a masters degree in vocal performance from New England Conservatory, where she studied with Karen Holvik and completed double concentrations in vocal pedagogy and music-in education.
As a classically trained vocalist, Shannon stresses the importance of a healthy vocal technique for all students, to serve as the foundation for approaching any musical style. She has worked with students of all ages and is comfortable with a wide range of repertoire. As a teacher, she takes an individual approach to lessons that foster confidence, artistry, and an appreciation for all forms of music. Shannon believes strongly that music study conveys lifelong benefits, and strives to bring a sense of discovery and personal creativity to her lessons.
Shannon performs actively in the DC area, most regularly with the professional schola of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The choir tours and records regularly; in 2013 they completed a series of sacred music recordings as well as a tour of Rome. In 2014, they will be featured in a performance with the early music ensemble Seraphic Fire and will complete another recording project featuring music performed during their tour. In 2012, Shannon performed with the Castleton Festival, where she sung under Maestro Lorin Maazel. In Boston, she sang under the baton of Maestros Stephen Lord and Joseph Flummerfelt, most notably as soloist for Mozart’s Coronation Mass. Locally, she has performed professionally with the Washington Bach Consort, the Woodley Ensemble, Chantry, and with the resident choruses of the Washington National Cathedral and St. Matthew’s Cathedral.
