Originally from Newark, Delaware, Emily Foster is an active musician in the Washington, DC area. She holds the rank of Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force Band where she is both an oboist and the English hornist. Since coming to DC in 2013, Emily has performed regularly with the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, Washington National Opera, and the Fairfax Symphony and enjoys being a sought after freelancer in both DC and Baltimore. A passionate chamber musician, she has collaborated with the City Choir of Washington, the Cathedral Choral Society, and the Thomas Circle Singers.
Emily is also the oboist in the Atlantic Reed Consort, an innovative chamber music ensemble comprised of all reed instruments and made her Carnegie Hall debut in January 2017 with that ensemble. She can be heard on their debut album entitled, “Atlantic Reed Consort”.

Prior to winning her job in the Air Force, Emily earned her Bachelors of Music degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas where she studied with Robert Atherholt. In addition to the oboe, Emily is also an advanced pianist and has studied piano privately for 13 years, most recently with Dr. Lisa Papili. Emily teaches private lessons on both oboe and piano, and has experience with a wide range of students, beginner through adult.
