Sarah Berger, Violin

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Sarah Berger is a violinist passionate about orchestral performance and contemporary music. She frequently plays with the Fairfax Symphony, Alexandria Symphony, New World Symphony, and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestras. As a Spoleto Festival USA Fellow, Sarah performed in the premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-Winning opera, “Omar,” and most recently, she served as the concertmaster of Spoleto’s featured opera, Vanessa.

 

Throughout her undergraduate degree, Sarah played with Eastman School of Music’s new music ensemble, Ossia. As a member of Ossia, she performed alongside the JACK Quartet, playing Steve Reich’s “Triple Quartet.” Sarah premiered pieces with Mannes American Composers Ensemble and performed compositions by Michael Gordon and Julius Eastman at Spoleto Festival USA. Upcoming, Sarah will collaborate with renowned guitarist, Eliot Fisk, on Boccherini’s Quintet for Guitar and Strings at Skaneateles Festival in July 2023.

 

In addition to ensemble playing, Sarah has given several solo recitals throughout Rochester, New York and Northern Virginia. She has performed in master classes with Augustin Hadelich, Andres Cardenes, Rachel Barton Pine, and Itamar Zorman. 

Sarah studied with Renée Jolles and received her B.M. from Eastman School of Music in 2018, graduating with the prestigious Performer’s Certificate. She received her M.M. from Mannes School of Music, The New School, where she studied with Lewis Kaplan.
